What kinds of things make you feel at home? Skaraborg has everything from practical downtown apartments to large farms far from their nearest neighbor. If waterfront living is what makes your heart beat a little faster we have Lakes Vänern and Vättern as well as watercourses such as the Göta Canal, the River Tidan or one of the many smaller lakes and watercourses that form part of the landscape in Skaraborg. Skaraborg’s surroundings are characterized by nature, water, table rocks and wide plains. Our cities and towns are evenly spread across the country, and each has its own past, present and future.

Close to everything

Because the municipalities are so close together, commuting distances are short, and from the center of Skaraborg you can reach every corner of the county by car in about 45 minutes. You can get around by train, bus, car and sometimes even by boat. Also, more and more people are choosing to cycle shorter distances.

It’s easy to get to Gothenburg, Stockholm, Örebro and Jönköping from many parts of Skaraborg. This not only makes it easy for other people to visit us, but also for us to visit other places when the mood takes us.

What’s more, you get so much more for your money in Skaraborg than in many other regions. Renting a home can be a great alternative for quickly settling in a place if you have already found a job or are in a hurry to move for other reasons. There are municipal housing companies in almost all municipalities (Hjo is the exception)  and home seekers can get in line to find a home. There are also many private rental companies. There are many opportunities to find homes for rent by private individuals on websites like Blocket Bostad or Airbnb.

Buying a home

There is a large selection of homes for purchase in Skaraborg. There are single-family homes, townhomes, country homes and condos. The easiest way to find homes for sale is to visit Hemnet and the websites of various realtors. In Skaraborg, prices are on average lower than in the rest of the country, especially in relation to average incomes.

Building a home

For many people, the dream means buying a plot of land and building their own home with the total freedom to make their own choices for everything from the floor plan to the kitchen cabinets. The municipal websites include information about residential properties that are available for sale. Bear in mind that new plots are released as and when and it may be best to check out current city planning. Once you’ve found the area you want to live in, you must join the line for a lot. Then you can start planning for real!
