The Daselaar family’s relocation to Skaraborg – Part 1

Life at a slower pace, more time for each other, their hobbies, interests and nature. These are the reasons why the Daselaars are moving from the Netherlands to Sweden. Now there’s less than a year before the move.

It was when the Daselaar family from the Netherlands – mom, dad and three adult children –watched a TV show about a person who moved to Sweden, that the idea first took root. Could they also move? Anne, the daughter-in-law, describes how the idea just grew and grew for the family.

“We couldn't let go of the idea. For weeks we thought about how Sweden seemed able to give us a completely different life.” 

The family began looking at houses on the Internet and realized that in Sweden prices were utterly different from what they were used to in the Netherlands. Here they would be able to find a home in the country with room for everyone and realize their dream of keeping animals and growing their own food.

When the family visited Sweden for the first time in the summer of 2024, everything felt right.

They also took the opportunity to cycle past a house they’d seen on the Internet but were a little unsure of. But once there, things all fell into place.

“It was not at all the type of house we thought we’d like, but once we saw it we changed our minds.”

The farm, which is now theirs, has enough room for the entire family. The big house will be converted into two homes and a smaller building in the yard and another outbuilding will be put in order so that the family’s children each get their own home, as will the parents.
