Hospitality in Skaraborg is a big, important industry for the region. Skaraborg’s strength resides in its wide range of activities and the fact that it’s never far to anything in Skaraborg. Visitors can reach most of what Skaraborg has to offer within an hour – ideal for day trips. This attracts people with all kinds of interests to the region.
“Skaraborg offers a veritable diversity of experiences in such a small area. We have magnificent historical places to visit like Läckö Castle and Karlsborg’s Fortress, the unique engineering of the Göta Canal, Lake Hornborga and its cranes, Skara Sommarland with its water and adventure park, or Skövde Arena with its swimming complex and sporting and cultural events. There are also opportunities for fantastic nature experiences and activities, summer or winter, in the extensive coastal landscape and on table rocks such as Kinnekulle and Billingen, or the wilderness in the Tiveden national park,” says Charlotte Backman, process manager for Visit Skaraborg, our collaboration platform.

We need more hotels in Skaraborg
In 2024, a hospitality industry room inventory was conducted in Skaraborg. It showed the need for more hotel rooms in the future. Skaraborg currently has around 2,300 hotel rooms in a little under 70 hotels. Because the demand for hotel rooms in Skaraborg is expected to increase by 20% by 2030, we will need a lot of new accommodation in the area. If the hotels have the same capacity as the current stock, we will need no fewer than 15 new hotels to meet demand.
“We can see clear growth in Skaraborg and it’s good to get our need for more hotels and hotel rooms confirmed. Now we’re intensifying our joint efforts to bring about more new hotels,” said Theres Sahlström, Skaraborg’s Municipal Association Board Chair, when the analysis was presented in the fall of 2024.
